SD Cards and Class
May 22, 2008 – 7:15 am
I was shopping for SD cards recently (microSD and just SD cards for my laptop) and I realized there was a large difference in prices for some of the same brand and same capacities. Realizing why, it is because of the different Class. Class refers to the write speed. Class 2 is 2mb/sec, Class 6 is 6mb/sec, etc. The lower end would be Class 2, while the higher might be Class 6. For the extra fast, you can get special super fast cards, ideal for your digital camera (higher the write speed, the less lag when you take the picture to when you are ready for your next picture). However for my purposes, a lower class wasn’t so bad, since I will be needing to write on it only once a while.
